YWCA 2011 National Conference

** Follow our live Twitter stream from the 2011 YWCA Conference in Washington, D.C.! **

This an exciting time for the YWCA. It is a time for new leadership. It is a time for our best collective thinking. It is a time for fresh ideas about how we can be a more effective organization. It is a time for us to breathe new life into our national movement. It is time for us to OWN THE FUTURE.

OWN THE FUTURE is the theme of the 2011 YWCA National Conference and Annual General Assembly, which will be held from April 7 through April 9. The Conference will begin with Capitol Hill Day where Persimmon Women will, once again, make our presence KNOWN and voices HEARD. The centerpiece of our collective advocacy effort will be the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). VAWA, created in 1994, is the landmark law that seeks to prevent and end violence against women. VAWA comes up for consideration in this 112th Congress.

This year, we are partnering with the Feminist Majority to present the “Women, Power, and Money Summit.” The summit will bring together women leaders to address topics such as advocacy, fundraising, global women’s rights, political and social activism, and leadership. Joining with the Feminist Majority, an organization which has presented prior summits with widespread turnout and high praise, provides YWCA attendees a great educational and networking experience and extends our reach to new prospective partners in advancing our mission.

OWN THE FUTURE means embracing and channeling our collective energy and talent to build a strong and resilient YWCA for the future. Let’s show Capitol Hill, the White House, the agencies of government, our partners, and all those around us that the YWCA joins together as one organization and one team to bring about a better future for women, girls, and their families. We look forward to seeing you in Washington, D.C. this April.
